METAL BUILDING DESIGN GUIDE

WHAT ROOF PITCH IS BEST FOR YOUR METAL BUILDING?

Roof pitch changes the overall look and profile of your metal building. Explore some of the most common roof pitch options below to get a better idea of what you may want for your project.

1:12

Low Roof Pitch

A subtle roof slope that creates a lower-profile metal building.

2:12

Slight Roof Pitch

Adds more visible slope while maintaining a relatively low roof profile.

3:12

Moderate Roof Pitch

A noticeable slope that gives the building a more traditional roof profile.

4:12

Traditional Roof Pitch

Creates a steeper roofline and a more pronounced architectural appearance.

5:12

Steeper Roof Pitch

Creates additional roof height and a stronger visual peak.

6:12

High Roof Pitch

A much steeper slope for projects where a taller, more dramatic roofline is desired.

HOW DOES ROOF PITCH AFFECT YOUR BUILDING?

Roof pitch describes how much a roof rises vertically for every 12 inches it runs horizontally. For example, a 4:12 roof rises four inches for every twelve inches of horizontal distance.

The pitch you choose can change the overall appearance and height of your metal building. A higher roof pitch can also increase the cost of a building because the roof requires a larger overall surface.

01

LOWER PITCH

Creates a lower, more streamlined building profile.

02

HIGHER PITCH

Creates a taller roof profile and may increase overall building cost.

03

YOUR PROJECT MATTERS

The right roof pitch depends on the look, dimensions and design of your building.
